Why this exists

Most prep guides
are recycled garbage.

A 12-week PT plan ripped from a forum. A motivational pep talk. A list of push-ups. None of it tells you what actually breaks candidates — or how to be ready when it does.

The body fails first

Stress fractures end more attempts than cold or quitting combined. Generic running plans cause them. The right loading prevents them.

The mind fails second

Most candidates have no mental framework when Wednesday of Hell Week hits. They quit because nothing prepared them for that exact moment.

Family fails third

The spouse, the parents, the partner. The conversation nobody tells you to have ends more careers than the surf.

What's inside

Seven chapters.
Built to make you ready.

Every chapter answers the questions you'd ask a frogman if you ever got the chance to sit one down for an afternoon.

Chapter One

Know what you're getting into

The full pipeline from MEPS to your first deployment, broken down so you know exactly what's coming and when.

  • How the pipeline really works
  • What each phase of BUD/S looks like
  • Hell Week, hour by hour
  • The five reasons people quit — and how to inoculate against each
Chapter Two

The physical standards

The exact PST numbers you'll be measured against and what scores actually keep you off the bus home.

  • Minimum vs competitive PST scores
  • Combat Side Stroke broken down
  • How to add real volume to push-ups and pull-ups
  • Soft sand and boot running done right

  • Beginner, intermediate, and advanced versions
  • Daily sessions for all 26 weeks
  • PST trial weeks built in

  • Goal-setting in four time horizons
  • Visualization protocols by training phase
  • Pain categorization — signal vs noise
  • The family conversation nobody warns you about
Chapter Five

Nutrition, recovery, injury

The unglamorous chapter that prevents the stress fracture that ends most attempts before they start.

  • Calorie and hydration targets for the volume
  • How to spot a stress fracture early
  • Joint care for high-volume swim and run
  • Sleep and supplementation that actually matters
Chapter Six

Gear and logistics

What to buy, what to break in, and what to leave at home. Curated from people who lived in the gear.

  • Pre-BUD/S training gear list
  • Boots and footwear that survive
  • Cold exposure setup at home
  • What to pack for boot camp and A-school

  • How to peak the PST on demand
  • Travel day and reporting checklist
  • Your first 48 hours, broken down

The 26-week program.

Four phases. Built to be followed in order. Designed to peak on the day you ship.

First Six Weeks

Build the Base

Establish work capacity. The unsexy weeks where most people skip ahead and ruin their hips by week ten.

Next Eight Weeks

Build the Volume

Push your daily push-up and swim totals. Layer in soft sand running. Establish the daily double.

Next Eight Weeks

Build the Intensity

PST trials every two weeks. Boots introduced. Cold water exposure begins. The mental work intensifies.

Final Four Weeks

Get Ready to Ship

Smoke sessions, double-days, long rucks, and Hell Week simulations. The phase that makes ready feel real.

Common Questions

Before you commit.

Is this an official Navy publication? +
No. The Standard is a community-produced guide. It is not affiliated with the U.S. Navy, NAVSPECWARCOM, or the Department of Defense. It's based on publicly available information, published memoirs, and the collective knowledge of the NSW community. Always defer to your detailer, recruiter, and current Navy guidance.
How is this delivered? +
Instant download. The moment your payment goes through, you'll receive a link to download the PDF instantly. Read it on any device — phone, tablet, or desktop. No physical book ships.
What if I'm a total beginner? +
The 26-week program has three skill levels — beginner, intermediate, and advanced. The beginner track is built for someone who can't currently hit the PST minimums. By week 26, you'll be competitive.
How long do I have to ship to use this? +
Ideally six months out. The full program runs 26 weeks. If you have less time, the guide includes condensed 12-week and 90-day versions for candidates with shorter runways.
Do I need a gym or special equipment? +
No gym required. The program is built around running, swimming, calisthenics, and bodyweight work — the same tools you'll use in training. A pull-up bar and access to water for swim sessions are the only real assets you'll want.
Will this prep me for the PST and BUD/S? +
Yes. The training is engineered to build the PST scores recruiters look for, then carry that base into the work capacity, mental toughness, and durability that BUD/S demands. It's a runway from where you are now to the standard you'll be held to.
What's your refund policy? +
Because this is an instant digital download, all sales are final. If something isn't working with your file or access, reach out via the @navy_seals_udt Instagram and we'll make it right.
